Quiscalus quiscula are native to North America. They may be easily confused with other black birds, like the crow, raven, or blackbird and they don't seem to be anyone's favorite bird. But I was fascinated by the vibrant iridescence of his feathers. When my friend sent me her photo, I was struck by the many beautiful shades of green, blue, and purple I could see, all setting off his intense, yellow gaze. The only black paint I used here is in the pupil and shadow by his eye.
