Northern Cardinal Male
Cardinalis cardinalis is a long-tailed songbird with a prominent crest. Male cardinals are brilliant red all over, with a short, thick, orangy-red bill and black face. Females are pale golden or buff-to-brown, with red highlights at the wings, tail, and crest. To me, there's nothing more cheerful on a cold winter's day, than the sight of one of these beauties. How about that cheeky little grin?
